He broke up after my injury

Hey Guys,

I went out with a guy for a few months. We got in an accident and he dumped me when I ended up going to the hospital and having surgery. It was an ATV accident and he was driving. Now he is seeing another woman and told me that we were just dating for a while and that it just didn’t work out. It happens all the time he said.

At first he told me he got into legal trouble and needed time but he told me he loves me. Now it’s completely different and I have an injury that will scar me for life and will take 14 weeks to heal. I’m now depressed and don’t understand what happened. Can you please help me to understand??

Thank you so much,

Dear Ann,

We’re truly sorry about your injury. We wish you the best with your healing process.

You’re probably asking yourself, What kind of person leaves someone they love during a time of need? Our answer: It happens more than you might think.

There are a variety of reasons he might do this.

  1. He feels guilty over the accident and he’s not able to deal with the consequences on any level. So instead of doing the right thing, and at least being a friend and supporting you during this emotionally and physically difficult time, he dumps you.
  2. He’s not the kind of person who knows how to deal with adversity, so the accident was a good excuse to bolt.
  3. He’s the kind of person who only cares about himself.

Whatever the case may be Ann, he was not invested in the relationship the way you were. We know that you want to understand what happened, and maybe even still care about this man, but honestly, any person that would leave the way he did, is not worth your effort. The best thing you can do is surround yourself with people who love you and care about you and focus on healing your body and mind.

We wish you all the best.
