It’s a question of condoms

Here is a question we received recently. (See below) Not only was this an interesting question, but it opened up a lively and broader discussion on sex and religion. We discuss the question on Podcast Episode 17.

From Erick:

Hey GUYS! I am from Costa Rica and listen to the podcast every week, it’s just great and funny, keep it up! I wonder if you could talk about men losing their erections when using a condom. It happens to me about half the time I use one and so far haven’t been able to feel fully confident with my erections when wrapping ’em up in latex. I certainly don’t have this problem when not using one, but I am in this relationship where I am not getting any unless I use a condom and I really really like the girl. It makes me feel that we can connect in every other aspect of our relationship except intimacy, which is pretty much destroying it. All suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

  1. Oh boy, I am going to have to tune in to hear your answers to this!

  2. If you both have been tested, and are in a committed relationship, ask your girlfriend to get a diaphragm, and combine it with spermacide. I think the responsibility for safe sex should be equal. If it is an exclusive relationship with no danger of contracting HIV, it seems reasonable that she should kick in a little protection as well.

Have your girlfriend slip the condom on you–that can be very sexy–and she can moisten it as well!

  3. I need to tune in for this one too. I’m not a big fan of condoms either, they tend to irritate my skin. Luckily I’m married and we’ve both been tested. Though the risk of pregnancy is definitely an issue so sometimes I just deal with them. Hopefully the guys have some good suggestions!

  4. Hmm, I guess they don’t have HIV in Costa Rica. I think having an incurable STD might make him lose that erection a lot worse, but what do I know?

I look forward to listening to your podcast to hear your take. Meanwhile, I gave you the Versatile Blogger Award on my blog. Congrats!
